Project Newport Harbor

MASTER BEDROOM REVEAL

It’s reveal day! Today we’re sharing one of our recent designs, Project Newport Harbor! The home owner wanted to create a bright and functional home for their growing family that incorporated neutrals with pops of blues to create a sophisticated yet inviting environment.

We wanted the master bedroom to be the ultimate retreat. We added metallic cork wallpaper to the wall behind the bed to create contrast and add texture to the space. The bed frame was a custom piece that fit around their ergo bed. The window treatments throughout the master suite were all custom, motorized and can be controlled from an app on the home owner’s iPhone.  Over 8 different fabrics in the master bedroom were carefully chosen to harmonize together creating a peaceful space that also feels fresh and coastal. Home build + design by Graystone Custom Builders.

Project San Clemente | Part Three

LIVING ROOM & POWDER BATH REVEAL

The last of our Project San Clemente reveal is here! If you haven’t seen part one and part two, click the links to see the rest of the house! It took a lot of work to get from before to after, we painted the walls in Dunn Edwards ‘Cool December’ to freshen up the space and added hardwood flooring throughout the main floor. We removed the etched sea life inspired glass windows on the main floor and replaced them for a cleaner look.

The fireplace was refaced with venetian plaster and we created a storage space to display decorative wood. We took out the existing built in and replaced it with a cozy window seat. Venetian plaster was also used to replace the slate and wood on the walls in the living room, this allowed us to reveal a window that had previously been covered up!

San Clemente Reveal | Part Two

Dining Room & Kitchen Reveal

Project San Clemente round 2! If you didn’t see the entry and bar reveal we shared last week, click here to check it out. We wanted to create a home that reflected the cool laid back style of the couple we were designing it for. The homeowners are a stylish young family with three children. The goal of the remodel was to design a space to entertain their large family and friends. Fabrics and furnishings were done in a warm colorful palette contrasting the cool white walls. We filled the home with a mix of family antiques and new pieces to give it a collected, well-traveled vibe. All photography was done by Tessa Neustadt.

Entry and Bar Reveal!

Our latest Project San Clemente is nestled into a private surfing community in San Clemente, the Spanish Village by the sea. We were hired to do a full-scale remodel of the main floor including the entry, bar area, kitchen, dining room, living room and powder bath. Before renovations, the original home had previously been designed in a contemporary Balinese style with travertine tile floors, cherry cabinets and dark green granite throughout. The ceilings and several walls were clad in wood paneling.

We wanted to take the home in a more modern coastal direction. The end result is what we like to refer to as LA meets OC, a cool LA vibe married with a casual warm SoCal feel.

Spanish Influenced Home With a Coastal Twist

We’re excited to share a peek into one of our recent designs, Project Talega! Our clients had recently purchased a home nestled in the hills of San Clemente and hired us to infuse a coastal vibe into their Spanish influenced home. The main goal of the design was to brighten and freshen things up while keeping everything family friendly. We wanted to blend the couples young, fresh style with a sophisticated and timeless look.

WHAT WE DID: We redesigned their existing fireplace and rebuilt something lighter and brighter with subtle traditional elements. We wanted to make the fireplace the focal point of the family room so we designed two built-ins on each side using reclaimed wood to give the shelves depth and interest. We also addressed the “forgotten” window to the right of the fireplace by creating a built-in window seat with an upholstered cushion in a fun stripe! We layered pops of blue throughout the living room and mixed textures by bringing in different tones of wood, zinc, leather and sisal.

::Coto De Caza Install::

January 19, 2016 by blackbandtest Filed Under: Blackband Design, Interiors 5 Comments

We’ve been crazy busy with installs lately and wanted to give you a sneak peek into a recent Coto De Caza home we designed! Our clients just moved into their first home together and wanted to blend their styles using transitional and rustic elements. They wanted to keep their existing wall color and carpet but update all of the furnishings. We brought in two oversized track arm sofas in white linen with leather occasional chairs to mix up the tones and add interest. Pillows and accessories act as colorful accents and keep the room looking fresh. We added custom drapery along the back windows to soften the space and infuse color and texture as well as create continuity. Stay tuned to see the rest of the rooms we designed! Stay up to date on all of our projects by following us on instagram!

Project Shady Canyon Reveal!

November 9, 2015 by blackbandtest Filed Under: Blackband Design, Interiors 18 Comments

Part One: Entry, Formal Dining Room, Living Room

We are so excited to share a recent design of ours, Project Shady Canyon! This home had a lot of its original Spanish style architecture which we loved, but we wanted to modernize it and bring a coastal vibe to the design. One of the biggest goals for our clients was to keep things family friendly and comfortable, while still looking sophisticated for entertaining. We started by refreshing the paint color in a lighter, crisp tone to help open up the space. We kept the color scheme very monochromatic, a mix of naturals with fresh accents by pulling in grays, creams and taupes. Most of the furnishings in this home were custom made including the entry consoles, dining table, dining buffet, sofas, coffee table, desk, the built-ins in the kids playroom, and all of the rugs. By designing custom furnishings it allows us to offer our clients one of a kind pieces that we can alter in size, materials, finish, etc.

All of the photography was done by Tessa Neustadt and there were too many good photos to choose from so we are breaking the reveal up into two posts. Today we’re sharing the entry, formal dining room, and living room. Later this week we will reveal the dining room, master bedroom, and kids playroom.

BEFORE and AFTER!

October 20, 2015 by blackbandtest Filed Under: Before & After, Blackband Design, Interiors 6 Comments

When we first began working with this Newport Beach client the living room and dining room were flipped and the walls were beige with yellow undertones. Our first step was to select a crisp white paint to lighten up the space. Our second step was to flip the layout of the room, making the living room centered around the fireplace.

Our objective in this space  was to create a light and livable environment by building on a neutral palette and adding pops of color through fabrics, artwork, and accessories, while layering in dark and light finishes. We wanted the living room to feel casual and still look sophisticated for guests. To showcase the coastal vibe, we layered blues with custom drapery and coral accent pillows to finish the look. For the dining room, a long reclaimed farmhouse table fit the room perfectly and helped lighten up the space. Custom host and hostess chairs carry over the color scheme from the living room. We will be installing a big chandelier to help anchor the dining room area, and bringing in a sideboard in a fun color to add some depth to the space.

The first “before” photos below were taken on our initial visit with the client, before we selected a new paint color and flipped the layout of the rooms. The rest of the before and after photos below were taken on the day of the install, as you can see the paint was refreshed but the space still lacked depth and balance (and of course furniture). We love to see the way a room can transform itself with a little TLC.

Project Oceanfront Peninsula Reveal

October 5, 2015 by blackbandtest Filed Under: Blackband Design, Interiors 2 Comments

We are excited to share one of our latest designs, Project Oceanfront Peninsula! Our friends Graystone Custom Builders did the design, build and material specification, and we were brought on to do the interior design. This Cape Cod inspired beach house reflects its coastal surroundings with a watery scheme blending blues and whites throughout the house. The open floor plan offers indoor outdoor living with bifold doors leading from the main floor to the patio on the beach. For the master bedroom we layered textures and used subtle tones to let the view do the talking! The rooftop deck offers 360 degree views of the ocean and bay, making it the perfect place to take in those gorgeous Newport sunsets.
